Rippstein recording

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rippstein image ( Dunn-Rippstein image ) is an X-ray image of the hip joint that is used to accurately assess the position of the femoral neck .

If a malalignment of the femoral neck is suspected, for example a coxa vara , a Rippstein image is taken in order to calculate the exact CCD angle and anteversion angle of the femoral neck and to plan a possible surgical correction.

execution

In the supine position, the hip joint and knee joint are each bent 90 °. The hip joint must be spread (abducted) approx. 20 ° without changing the rotation. An axial x-ray is taken in this position.

In the case of children, this must be done as a held recording , i.e. with the support of a person holding their legs.
