A knight's meal (or knight's meal ) is an experience catering offer . As a rule , dishes are served in an allegedly medieval ambience with a corresponding supporting program in a historical location such as a castle , a palace or a vaulted cellar .

Both servants and some of the visitors dress in fanciful or medieval-looking clothing. The knight's meal itself is usually a selection of rustic dishes that generally have no authentic medieval background. The events are often supplemented by performances by jugglers and musicians from the medieval scene . A master of ceremonies can lead through the event. Castles, palaces, restaurants but also historical cultural associations offer such events.

As a rule, such events have no significant historical basis and do not correspond to the food culture in the Middle Ages , but are rather oriented towards depictions of the Middle Ages in films and other popular media. The food and clothing of the staff are merely based on medieval customs. Often there are anachronisms in the menu, such as potatoes , which have only been a part of European cuisine since modern times.
