The manor Burgtonna is a former manor located at Am Wasser 137 in the Burgtonna district of the municipality of Tonna , Thuringia . The main building and an auxiliary building are under monument protection and are entered in the list of cultural monuments in Tonna .

history

The residential building was erected around 1450 as a quarry stone building. In the 17th century, a half-timbered storey was added and a new roof with half-hips was built. In this context, the windows on the ground floor and first floor were apparently enlarged and redesigned as high-rectangular rectangular windows with ashlar walls.

In 1923 Georg Kossenhaschen (1968–1931) acquired the property including 132 hectares of land.

In the course of the land reform in Germany after the Second World War , the property was expropriated and divided on the basis of SMAD Order No. 209 , with a border being drawn right through the middle of the former manor house.

The three northern parts of the property were sold to a farmer. The roof and both upper floors of the northern part of the mansion were largely demolished. Another demolition was not carried out, however, as the house was needed to accommodate refugees from the formerly German eastern regions and bombed-out cities. The ground floor was provided with a new gable roof.

The southern plots of land with the southern part of the manor house, a garden house and ancillary buildings came into the ownership of the municipality after the fall of the Wall. The manor house and garden house were placed under monument protection and the community had their roofs and the windows on the main building renewed. A local history museum was set up in the street-side outbuilding at Am Wasser 137c, which was inaugurated in 1999.
