from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Robbert Adrianus Veen (* 1956 ) is a theologian in the Mennonite tradition.

Veen first studied Semitic languages, theology and philosophy at the University of Amsterdam . From 1996 to 2005 he worked as a pastor for the Dutch Mennonite Church . From 2001 to 2008 he was a teacher at the Mennonite Seminary in Amsterdam. Currently (2009) he teaches philosophy of religion and art at the Huizer-Art Center and the Dutch Philosophical Society. Since 2011 he has been working for the Protestant community in Ter Apel, Groningen.

Typical of Veen's theology is the connection between Mennonite theology ( Menno Simons , John Howard Yoder ) with the theology of Karl Barth and with the context of ancient Israel, where the Gospel originated. Veen is one of the theologians of the Amsterdamse School ( Amsterdam School ). The theologians there, such as Karel Adriaan Deurloo and Kornelis Heiko Miskotte, hold the view that the Bible has a clear message and that the work of theologians is primarily to let the Bible itself "speak". Robbert Veen is the Mennonite representative of this theology.
