Sir Robert Atkins (born February 5, 1946 in London ) is a British politician of the Conservative Party .

Life

After graduating from Highgate School in London, Atkins became politically active. In 1979 Atkins was elected to the House of Commons for the Conservative Party and was a member of Parliament until 1997. From 1987 to 1989 Atkins was Minister for Industry and Aerospace at the Department of Commerce and Industry. Atkins was Minister of Sport for the Environment in 1989 and 1990, and then in the Department of Education from 1990 to 1992. Atkins has been a member of the European Parliament since 1999 .

In 1997, Atkins was knighted as a Knight Bachelor . Atkins is an honorary citizen of the City of London.
