Robert Sabuda

Robert James Sabuda (born March 8, 1965 in Wyandotte , Michigan) is an American children's book illustrator and pop-up book designer .

After attending the Pratt Institute in New York City, Sabuda initially worked as a package designer. In 1988 Sabuda illustrated his first children's book "The Fiddler's Son". Sabuda gained international attention with his pop-up books, published in 1994, in which he opened up new dimensions for this type of book. His books are characterized by a very difficult paper mechanics, in which an illustration is often dispensed with. The books "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland: A Pop-up Adaptation" 2003, "America the Beautiful" 2004 and "Encyclopedia Prehistorica Dinosaurs: The Definitive Pop-Up" (2006 together with his partner Matthew Reinhart) set new standards in the design of Pop up books set. Sabuda is one of the leading international paper engineers and has already been awarded the Meggendorfer Prize of the MBS Movable Book Society (USA) three times .

Sabuda runs a studio in New York City, where he designs books and fosters young talent in children's book illustration and paper engineering.
