Roller press

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The material bed roller mill (also known as roller press ) consists of two rollers of the same size, which rotate at the same peripheral speed. The material is supplied in such a way that a material bed is created between the rollers. The bearing blocks of a roller are linearly displaceable and are pressed against the material bed with springs or hydraulic pressure cylinders. The pressures in the material bed are over 50  MPa . Generally they are between 100 and 300 MPa. The bed of material is thereby compressed to a solid volume fraction of over 80%.

The good-bed roller mill is somewhat similar to roller crushers and roller presses for compacting powders, but it differs in terms of task, mode of operation and construction. The good-bed roller mill offers particular advantages for comminuting brittle materials.

It was developed in the 1980s at the Institute for Mineral Processing at Clausthal University of Technology .
