The Romet brand is a Polish manufacturer of bicycles , mopeds and motorcycles . The company was founded in Bydgoszcz in 1948 after the end of the Second World War as a state-owned company for the production of bicycles . After the de-Stalinization , it was modernized in 1953, the production of motorized two-wheelers was introduced in 1961 and the production facility was expanded in 1971.

After the system change in 1989, in the course of the nationwide privatization of state-owned companies, the name was changed to a public limited company under private law . The search for a suitable private investor was unsuccessful, however, which is why the company had to stop production in 1998. In 2006, the Polish bicycle manufacturer Arkus from Dębica, founded in 1991, bought the brand. As a limited liability company , the company was able to restart production and expand the product range to include ergometers .
