Rothesteus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rothesteus (* 4th century AD) - also Rothesteos , Rothestes , or Radistis - was a Gothic "small king" ( βασιλίσκος in the sources) under the Terwingian ruler Athanaric . He was the father of Atharid , who played a leading role in the assassination of St. Sabas in 372. Rothesteus is only known from the martyrs of the saint. The title "small king" probably means a Reik , a respected man who was probably the leader of a division of the - in this case Terwingian - Goths.
