A round-the-world ticket , or RTW ticket for short , is a flight ticket that is specially designed to enable travelers to completely circumnavigate the world.

RTW tickets come in many variations, for example with a limited number of stopovers (usually at least 3, at most 15), a limited travel time (at least 10, at most 365 days), or a limited number of continents that can be served. Often the stopovers can be changed at will in time and place during the trip for a small fee. A crossing of the Atlantic , a crossing of the Pacific as well as a direction of travel (east or west) and a return to the departure continent or country are always required.

variants

These tickets are offered in particular by airlines that are part of an aviation alliance so that the route network extends around the world. Prices start at around 1,300 euros in economy class . Usually a comparatively small lump sum is added per stopover .

In addition to the offers of the alliances, the Round-The-World ticket The Great Escapade is also available. With this variant, the ticket owner can use the airlines Singapore Airlines , Air New Zealand and Virgin Atlantic Airways . The journey starts and ends in London . The Great Escapade is characterized by the fact that the traveler is allowed to cover 29,000 air miles with the airlines just mentioned. Code sharing is not uncommon when using RTW tickets.

Booking classes

Round-The-World Tickets are for all cabin classes offered. Some airlines offer special booking classes.

conditions

The conditions of the RTW tickets often differ in terms of their flexibility. Usually the following rule applies: the higher the price, the more options the ticket holder has. This mainly concerns the rebooking and availability policy of the airline concerned. In particular, rebooking and new bookings of a section of the route may require an additional payment for cheap tickets. An unintentional rebooking due to an overbooking of the flight by the airline cannot be ruled out.
