The Rowtor Target Railway was a narrow gauge military target railway south of Okehampton in Dartmoor , England with a gauge of probably 610 mm (2 feet ).
history
The Rowtor Target Railway was built in 1959 based on an older railway used as a military target railway. The approximately 450 m long tracks consist of a long straight piece with a curve and with a turning loop at both ends as well as a branch to a double-track locomotive shed, in which a draisine called a Wickham trolley is still supposed to stand today. There are four points that all still work. The railway line and the rail vehicle are maintained by railway enthusiasts.
Thanks to the turning loops, unmanned draisines were able to drive back and forth continuously on the route laid along an earth wall. A wooden target in the form of a tank was installed on the trolley. The trolley was largely protected from fire by the earth wall.
