Royal Aero Club

The Royal Aero Club (RAeC for short) is the national body for sports aviation and its regulation in the United Kingdom .

The Royal Aero Club was founded in 1901 as an Aero Club and looked after the interests of balloonists. With the advent of the airplane, it was also dealt with. From 1909 the association was allowed to use the addition "Royal". From 1910 he was given the task of issuing and managing flight licenses. At the same time it became the official British branch of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale . The club is thus responsible for all sports aviation, record flights and competitions.

In 1909, the club established the first British airfield at Muswell Manor on the Isle of Sheppey . It was here that the first official flight of a British citizen in Great Britain by John Moore-Brabazon was carried out in the same year .
