Royal Agio Cigars

Royal Agio Cigars is a cigar producer based in Duizel (municipality of Eersel ) in the Netherlands .

history

The company was founded in 1904 by Jacques Wintermans as A. Wintermans & Zonen . Between 1913 and 1928 further branches, including one in Reusel , were opened. In 1950 the Agio brand was introduced. Much of the production was relocated to Malta in 1972 . In 1983 the Panter and Balmoral brands were taken over from Douwe Egberts . A plantation was opened in Sri Lanka in 1985 and a company in the Dominican Republic in 1990. With the opening of a new production facility and office building in 2007 in Westerlo with 30,000 m², Agio is the largest cigar factory in Europe.

Data

The company is still held and managed by the Wintermans family. The products are sold in over 100 countries. The brands of Royal Agio Cigars are: Balmoral , Mehari’s , Panter , Agio, De Huifkar and San Pedro de Macoris . Today (2019) Agio employs over 2500 people who produce 770 million cigars annually.
