Royal British Nurses Association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Royal British Nurses Association is a professional association for nurses in the United Kingdom founded in 1887 . The association was founded on the initiative of Ethel Bedford-Fenwick , using the British Medical Association for medical staff as a model. Bedford-Fenwick won Helena of Great Britain and Ireland as a supporter, who also became the association's first female president. Founded as the British Nurses Association , the association was named Royal in 1881 .

One of the most important goals of the association was the compulsory registration of nurses, analogous to the registered nurses in the United States of America . After six unsuccessful attempts, the British Parliament finally passed the Nurses Registration Act 1919 in 1919 .
