Royal Economic Society

The Royal Economic Society (RES) is a British organization of economists.

Its goals are to promote economics at universities as well as in the political, economic and public sectors. Membership is open to anyone interested.

It was founded in 1890 as the British Economic Association with the aim of promoting economic studies and publishing a magazine. On the initiative of the secretary Henry Higgs, who worked for the society from 1892 to 1906, it received the Royal Charter privilege in December 1902 , which made it possible to change its name to Royal Economic Society .

Its founders included Inglis Palgrave, Herbert Foxwell and Alfred Marshall . Past presidents have included John Maynard Keynes , William Beveridge , Lionel Robbins , James Meade , Nicholas Kaldor, and Richard Stone .

The magazine she edited, The Economic Journal , has been published since 1891.
