Rozenhof

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rozenhof is a historic residential complex in the center of the South African city of Stellenbosch . It was built in 1937 according to plans by Walther Blersch (1888–1971), the town clerk of Stellenbosch, in the German Biedermeier style and supplemented by some elements of Art Deco . Blersch based his design on the construction of the military hospital in Tübingen .

The facility was built on the foundations of the city's first prison, which was attached to the courthouse. In 1936 the entire complex was demolished and a dormitory for women was built in its place. In 1997 the home was converted into condominiums, with a balcony added to the front facade.
