The National Rugby League team of the Cook Islands , also known by their nickname The Cooks , represents the Cook Islands on an international level in the sport of rugby league . She has taken part in the Rugby League World Cup twice so far . Rugby League is considered the national sport of the Cook Islands.

The Cook Islands began to play international rugby league matches in 1986, but mostly only competed with other " dwarf states ". In 2000 , the team took part in a rugby league world championship for the first time, but failed without a chance in the preliminary round. In 2004 the Cooks won their first title with a triumph at the Pacific Cup . At the second World Cup appearance in 2013 , they did not make it to the quarter-finals again, but were able to record their first win in a World Cup game at 28:24 against Wales .
