The Ruhrtaler D 250 VK / K was a two-axle diesel locomotive developed for the Kerkerbachbahn by the locomotive manufacturer Ruhrtaler .

history

In order to replace the railway's steam locomotives, the Kerkerbachbahn tested several diesel locomotives from various manufacturers. Since none of the type locomotives met the requirements of the railway company, Ruhrtaler developed a locomotive tailored for service on the narrow-gauge line.

During construction, the order was changed and instead of two narrow-gauge locomotives, one narrow-gauge and one standard-gauge locomotive was delivered.

The standard-gauge locomotive was given the designation V 18 Steeden , the narrow-gauge V 19 Kerkerbachtal .

After the narrow-gauge section was closed in 1960, the narrow-gauge V 19 was converted to standard gauge. The central buffer coupling was removed and the side buffers brought into their normal position. When the remaining traffic was handed over to the Deutsche Bundesbahn in 1975, the locomotives were taken over and designated as 333 901 and 333 902.

In 1981 the 333 902 was taken out of service and sold to the Furka-Oberalp-Bahn (FO), which re-gauged it to 1000 mm and used it as number 4973. In 2011 it was acquired by Deutsche Privatbahn, switched back to standard gauge and designated as 333 902-5.

The 333 901 was taken out of service in 1979 and sold to the pipeline operating company, which used it in Pfungstadt. In 1991 the locomotive came to the Brig-Visp-Zermatt-Bahn (BVZ), where it was also switched to meter gauge and used as number 74. In 2003, FO and BVZ merged to form the Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn (MGB), which continues to use locomotive 74 as a reserve locomotive for shunting in Zermatt, Visp and Brig.

construction

The locomotives had a central driver's cab with a longer front end for the engine and a shorter one. The axles were stored in an outer frame.

Both locomotives were provided with pulling and pushing devices for both gauges, one in the middle and the other asymmetrically, so that both locomotives could be coupled and used together on the three-rail track.

The locomotives had an eight-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine with an output of 176 kW (240 hp) from the Mannheim engine works . You had a Voith L 33y turbo gearbox with an attached reversing gearbox. The axles were driven by a cardan drive.
