Running dinner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Running Dinner is a decentralized event format that is aimed at getting to know people, entertaining and eating together in a special setting. A multi-course meal (usually dinner) is eaten in different places, for example across a city, each course in a different place.

concept

In the English-speaking world, the basic rule is “every course in a different place”. Teams of two people are formed. These teams can either form themselves or they are drawn by lots. Each team is assigned a course, either a starter, main or dessert. The team cooks its own course at home, with two other teams as guests for dinner. For the other two courses, the team is now visiting others themselves. The term running is aimed at the change of location to each aisle . In this way, six people meet with each course, who are usually strangers to each other and who can get to know each other in a small setting while eating. So that everyone will meet again at the end, a party is usually held afterwards.

Running dinner has been registered with the German Patent and Trademark Office as a word and image trademark since 2002 , which is why the concept is sometimes known under other names or abbreviations ("Rudi") in order not to use a registered trademark. For example, the European Student Forum AEGEE organizes events in various cities called “Run and Dine” (also “Run & Dine”), “Flying Dinner” or “Switching Tables”. The term "Rudi rocks" can also be found.

organizer

Running dinners are often organized in university cities as an event for students. The biggest running dinner so far took place in Aachen.

Awards

In 2013, the concept was named rudirockt - Cooking and Making Contacts by the location initiative of the Federal Government and German Industry Germany - Land of Ideas as an “excellent place in the Land of Ideas”.
