The Rush University is one in Chicago -based privately owned medical university . Attached is a university clinic, the Rush University Medical Center .
history
The forerunner of today's university was founded in 1843 as Rush Medical College . The college was named after Benjamin Rush , a doctor and one of the founding fathers of the United States . The Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago served as the teaching hospital . In 1898 the college was attached to the University of Chicago and in 1942 preclinical training was discontinued. The Presbyterian Hospital has been preserved as a teaching hospital and merged in 1956 with the St. Luke's Hospital .
In 1971, Rush Medical College was re-established to meet the increasing need for doctors in the state. The college merged with St. Luke's Hospital to form Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center. The renaming to the current name took place in 2003, whereby the hospital was named Rush University Medical Center .
Colleges
The university is divided into four different colleges:
- The Rush Medical College for the training of doctors
- The College of Nursing for academic training in the nursing professions
- College of Health Science for training in medical technology
- Graduate College for postgraduate studies.
