The Russian Mathematical Surveys are the English edition of the Uspechi matematitscheskich nauk ( Russian Успехи математических наук , English transcription Uspekhi Matematicheskikh Nauk , short: Usp. Mat. Nauk , literal translation: successes in the English edition appear since 1936.) since 1945. They are published in the original Russian edition by the Russian Academy of Sciences .

They have been published every two months in Russia since 1947. Until 1997 the English edition was published by the London Mathematical Society (LMS) and the British Library , and since then by LMS, Turpion Ltd. (Moscow) and the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The journal contains review articles, mostly by Russian authors, communications from the Moscow Mathematical Society, and obituaries and biographies on the occasion of major birthdays. They are highly regarded , the impact factor was 0.959 in 2015, and gave an overview of the state of Russian mathematics even for those who are not powerful in Russian. After the political turnaround around 1990 that changed somewhat, since afterwards, as elsewhere in the world, Russian mathematicians also publish mostly in English and many have also gone abroad.
