The Ruswil Declaration of November 5, 1840 was a manifesto of the Catholic conservative forces in Switzerland under the leadership of Josef Leu von Ebersol. This declaration was intended to defend the old order from increasing liberalization . It is considered to be the oldest conservative party platform and the birth of the Christian Democratic People's Party (CVP) in Switzerland.

The meeting at which the Ruswil Declaration was drawn up took place in the hall of the Rössli inn in Ruswil , where 315 representatives of the conservative popular movement met to debate the revision of the canton's liberal constitution, which had been in force since 1830. At the event, the foundation stone of the Ruswil Association was founded, which would later flow into the Catholic Conservative Party (today's Christian Democratic People's Party).

The goal of overthrowing the liberal government was achieved with the referendum of January 31, 1841. Every year, on the third Wednesday in April, the members of the Ruswiler Verein met in the “Rössli” in Ruswil until it could no longer contain the large number of visitors; one had to meet in the open air.
