Ryūta Ibaragi

Ryūta Ibaragi ( Japanese 伊 原木 隆 太 , Ibaragi Ryūta ; born July 29, 1966 in Okayama Prefecture ) is a Japanese businessman and politician and has been the governor of Okayama since November 2012.

Ibaragi graduated from the engineering faculty of the University of Tokyo in 1990 and then worked for a consulting company until 1993. In 1995 he earned an MBA from Stanford University . In 1998, he succeeded his father as CEO of the Tenmaya ( 天 満 屋 ) department store chain, which is mainly active in the Chūgoku and Shikoku regions . In May 2012, he resigned to go into politics; His uncle became his successor.

In the gubernatorial election in Okayama in October 2012 , in which incumbent Masahiro Ishii no longer stood for an imminent change to national politics after four terms in office, Ibaragi applied with the support of center-right parties and the trade union confederation Rengō Okayama, the most promising of the three others The candidate was the previous member of the Prefecture Parliament, Akiko Ichii (previously a democrat, but without formal party support in the gubernatorial election). With around 60% of the vote, Ibaragi clearly prevailed against Ichii (32%) and the other two candidates with a relatively low turnout. He took office on November 12, 2012.
