Ryūzōji (clan)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ryūzōji clan ( Japanese 龍 造 寺 氏 , Ryūzōji-shi ) is a Japanese clan of the Sengoku period that was native to northern Kyūshū .

origin

As ancestors, they refer to Fujiwara Hidesato . Their territories are the Hizen Province and the Saga Province . However, they had to serve the Chiba in Kyushu . They slowly expanded their influence to the largest city on the island, Kitakyushu, and exchanged their province of Hizen for the lands of the Chiba on Kyushu.

Ascent

When they finally managed the castle themselves and defeated rice cultivation and the Ōuchi in the province of Suō , their head was established as Sengoku daimyō , although he did not have significant resources. This rise was a provocation against the established clans, and so it came to the battle with the Ōuchi , in which, however, contrary to all expectations, the Ryūzōji were able to assert themselves, which caused the opposing daimyō to commit suicide and his clan disappeared from the scene.

Progress

Surrounded by the Ōtomo in the east and the Shimazu in the south, they were largely isolated from political and military developments in the far west of Japan.

resolution

They later joined the Matsudaira from Aizu Province and stayed in Aizu until the Meiji Restoration in 1867.
