A serrated edge is a sharpening of knife blades with saw teeth.

On January 31, 1930, William Grant from Sheffield , England, in Germany, an invention for knives, especially for cutting tomatoes, fruit and the like at the Imperial Patent Office patent. According to this patent , indentations were made on both sides of the blade alternately on the right and left, which should prevent clippings from sticking to the almost flat surface of the blade and thereby improve the ability to cut.
