Sōichi Konagaya

Sōichi Konagaya ( Japanese 小 長 谷 宗 一 , Konagaya Sōichi ; * 1949 in Kamakura , Kanagawa Prefecture ) is a Japanese composer .

He graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and graduated in 1973 with a major in percussion instruments. There he was a student of Yusuke Koyake and Seimon Ariga .

He began to compose while still a student. After graduating, he worked as an arranger at CBS SONY Studio . After that, he developed special activities in the composition of works for wind orchestra and his works quickly found widespread attention. He became the permanent conductor of the Asia University Band . At the same time he established contacts with the Tokyo Ballet Company and created works with various dances for this company. In 1998 he was awarded the Bandmasters Academic Society of Japan (now: Academic Society of Japan for Winds Percussion and Bands ) award. He is currently advisor and director of workshops and band clinics for the Academic Society of Japan for Winds Percussion and Bands and board member of Kyo-En 21st Century Wind Music . The Ageo Citizen's Wind Band he faces as a conductor. He is also a sought-after conductor and lecturer for workshops and clinics.
