S1000 class is the name of a class of conventional submarines with independent air propulsion that is currently being developed in a joint project by the Russian Rubin Design Bureau and the Italian Fincantieri .

development

After lengthy negotiations, the two shipyards began the project in 2004 for a class of low-cost diesel-electric boats that displace around 1000 tons and which can also operate independently of the outside air using fuel cells . It is a revised version of the Russian project 1650 Amur . These boats, intended mainly for export, were presented at the Euronaval arms fair in France in 2006 and 2008 . In addition to their role as hunting submarines, they are primarily intended to be used for reconnaissance and to support special forces . The armed forces of Italy and India have shown interest in the boats .
