SIGKILL

On POSIX -compatible platforms, SIGKILL denotes a signal for the immediate termination of program processes . The constant for SIGKILL is defined in the header file signal.h . Symbolic signal designations are used because the signal numbers can differ depending on the platform.

etymology

SIG is usually used as a prefix for signals , while KILL is the English expression for killing and is intended to indicate the immediate termination of the process.

use

SIGKILL is sent to processes by the commands killor killallwith the parameter -9. SIGKILL initiates the immediate termination of a process. However, the process cannot react to this, but is instead without the possibility of e.g. B. Backing up data from memory is finished.
