Smon is a machine language monitor for the Commodore 64 home computer . The program was written by N. Mann and Dietrich Weineck and published in a multi-part magazine series of the monthly computer magazine 64'er between November 1984 and December 1985. The program was published in the same journal in parallel to a multi-part machine language course “Assembler is not alchemy”. Due to the course and the wide distribution of the magazine, the powerful program achieved a high level of awareness and was used by many programmers of the C-64 as an assembler , monitor and disassembler .

The extension dmon was also published in the 64's as an MSE listing ( M aschinen S language E ditor, from the 64's booklets), which enabled access to the memory of a connected 1541 floppy disk drive .

The Smon program was later republished several times, among other things in the 64'er special issue Assembler for beginners and advanced as well as in the book Assembler ist nicht Alchemie . The Smon was later integrated into emulators as well. B. in the emulator Power 64 for the operating system Mac OS .
