Semantic MediaWiki + ( SMW + for short ) is a semantic enterprise wiki whose pages can be enriched with semantic annotations. Through the semantic annotations, knowledge can be specifically queried and visualized in a variety of ways. Technically, it is a ready-to-use and preconfigured collection of MediaWiki extensions such as Semantic MediaWiki and Halo.

SMW + was designed to make hidden knowledge in unstructured data accessible. It combines the collaborative approach of a wiki with semantic technology. SMW + has its origins in the Halo project , which aims to provide scientists with a platform for collaborative knowledge creation in the fields of chemistry and physics. Machine-interpretable knowledge should not only be written by special knowledge engineers, but also by a wide range of domain experts and end users.

SMW + is among others, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO as an online encyclopaedia for Oceanography used. Other areas of application for SMW + are project and knowledge management.

SMW + was maintained by Ontoprise, which filed for bankruptcy in April 2012. As a result, SMW + will not be maintained in its old form. DataWiki, which is being developed by DIQA Projektmanagement GmbH, can be regarded as the successor.

Some components of SMW + should be maintained openly for the regular semantic MediaWiki.
