SS civilian badge from Hermann Senkowsky ; Standard design

The SS civil badge was a pin that was worn exclusively on civilian clothing and was only given to members of the Schutzstaffel (SS). It was supposed to make the membership of the SS clear, even on occasions when one did not wear a uniform. Its production, public wear or distribution is prohibited according to § 86a StGB .

history

The SS civil badge has been issued since 1932, only to members of the SS and only upon written application. Membership in the SS for more than six months was required.

There were two versions, a standard version made of non-ferrous metal and a more expensive version made of silver . If lost, it was only possible to reorder the silver version. A needle safety device could also be purchased for an additional charge.

The badges were counted according to the order in which they were awarded, so every SS member who applied for and received a civilian badge had an entry with the award number in his military pass , for example Hermann Senkowsky with the number 169,582 .
