SXW

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SXW is the file format as part of OpenOffice.org XML , formerly of Writer , the word processing program of OpenOffice.org , was created and related software packages. Accordingly, .sxw is the file name extension . The abbreviation stands for Sun XML Writer , but is sometimes mistakenly interpreted as StarOffice XML Writer . Accordingly, the documentation for OpenOffice 1.1 was published in the SXW and PDF formats . .sxw files roughly correspond in appearance and use to the .doc files in Microsoft Word , but cannot be read by this program.

The successor format OpenDocument has been used since OpenOffice 2.0 .

Conversion .sxw to .odt

OpenOffice version 4 or higher can no longer open .sxw files. The portable versions 3.X, which can be called up from a USB stick , still allow such files to be opened and then saved under the new .odt format .
