SYLK or SLK stands for SYmbolic LinK and is an exchange format defined by Microsoft , especially for spreadsheet data . Corresponding files have the extension .slk . SYLK files only contain letters from the ANSI code set and can therefore be read directly. Since Microsoft has not published an official specification, the simpler CSV format is usually preferred for data exchange .
