Saba Sahar

Saba Sahar (born August 28, 1975 in Kabul ) is an Afghan filmmaker and actress .

The actress, filmmaker and policewoman stood on a stage for the first time when she was nine years old. In 1990 she trained as a police officer and joined the cinema and theater department of the Afghan Interior Ministry. She later studied directing at the Shafaq Film Academy and at the Art Faculty of the University of Kabul. During the Taliban regime, she and her family emigrated first to Pakistan and later to Iran. After the fall of the Taliban regime, she returned to Kabul.

Saba Sahar has worked as an actress in numerous film productions and plays. The Saba Film Production Company, which she founded, has produced several feature films in which Saba Sahar appeared as a screenwriter, director and actress. A recurring theme in the films is violence against women. Saba Sahar often appears as a combative policewoman who restores law and order for women who have been victims of violence. Due to the destroyed cinema infrastructure in the Afghan provinces, Saba Sahar shows her films in a mobile cinema.

Saba Sahar is married and has three children.

In 2011 Saba Sahar was portrayed by Sebastian Heidinger in the documentary film Traumfabrik Kabul, co-produced by ZDF , which premiered in the “Forum” section of the 2011 Berlinale .
