Sabitz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sabitz was originally a rural village and later grew into a large individual farm. It is located around ten kilometers northeast of Bergen on the island of Rügen in a hilly area. Today Sabitz belongs to the municipality of Ralswiek .

The name

The place name Sabitz comes from the Slavic times. Slabicici were the people who lived there called, so the "people of Zabik".

The foundation

The establishment of the place goes back to the Rügen miners' family of the Zabes.

Historical mentions

Historical mentions took place in the first half of the 14th century. The Bergen monastery received various pensions from Sabitz. Since the 16th century the place belonged to Jarnitz . The place existed until around 1950 and the last farmsteads have now fallen into disrepair. Where the place was to be found today is a huge garbage dump, which - planted with green - arches evenly upwards like a symmetrical, artificial mountain. A street sign still refers to the Sabitz garbage dump (has since disappeared). The place that was the starting point for many family names on Rügen in the past was finally lost. The surnames Kloock, Klook, Klocken are closely associated with this place - verifiable from 1625 onwards. Before the fall of the Wall, the place had the zip code 2331, which was changed to 18528 after the fall of the Wall. This place experienced the same fate as many other places on Rügen. Formerly flourishing towns fell into disrepair and disappeared from maps and atlases. Sabitz can still be found on older maps today. Likewise on genealogical map materials.

Last residents until 1973

It is known to date that there were at least four parts of the building in Sabitz: a house, two stables and a large building, possibly a barn (?). This residential area was lived in by the Miehlke family until the garbage dump was built in 1973, who in turn were relocated to Jarnitz. The buildings were then torn down or fell into disrepair over time. They were on parcels 14 and 15. Floor 3 in the Jarnitz district.

Landfill from 1973

In 1973 a landfill for the district was set up on the described site. The landfill was operated until 1994 and in the years up to 2001 this landfill was secured by covering it with earth and sealing it off. Today it looks like a round, evenly shaped, green mountain ridge.
