sabtours is an Upper Austrian tourism company.

history

Today's company was founded in 1961 by Franz Stöttinger and Hans Schierl in equal parts in order to acquire the freed Wels line concession for the hospital - Kaiser-Josef-Platz route.

Until then, this line was operated by the Schiffelhuber company. Two used buses were also taken over by this company. The first touring coach went into operation just one year later.

In 1974 the name was changed and the legal form changed to SAB-TOURS Reisebüro und Autobusbetrieb Gesellschaft mbH. In 1975 the company headquarters was moved from Salzburger Strasse to Marcusstrasse 4. An office building, a workshop, a bus parking hall and a company filling station were built on the new site.

In the following years the company continued to grow rapidly. The development of the company can be divided into three phases:

  • the development phase of bus operations from 1961 to around 1985
  • the expansion of business activities to a tourism company from around 1973 to 1989
  • the expansion to the leading private bus and tourism company in Upper Austria from 1997 until today

Since the generation change in management, the general economic conditions have changed significantly, especially in tourism. During this time, sabtours was able to successfully develop into the largest private tourism company in Upper Austria.

City traffic in Wels , the second largest city in Upper Austria after Linz , is operated by SAB-TOURS on behalf of the city of Wels under the Linie Wels brand . This has been the case since 1961, ie it is not a recent privatization process; there were never any municipal transport companies in Wels. Before 1961, city transport was operated by the Schiffelhuber company.

In 2007 the Wels line became a Climate Alliance operation. The vehicle fleet is operated with biodiesel, mainly from used cooking oil.

The group of companies today

Today the sabtours tourism group employs around 400 people. The fleet consists of 106 buses at 4 locations.
