Doing things was launched on February 2, 2006 by the Association of German Engineers with partners from business and science. Around 100 companies, universities and institutions were among the partners. The initiative expired at the end of 2016.

Objectives: To awaken and promote a fascination for technology, to inspire the next generation and to further improve the image of the engineering profession.

activities

The initiative's successful projects included the internet portal technik-welten.de , which shows young people how to get into engineering, and the online technology broadcaster tectv . The tectv team took a look behind the scenes of companies and presented new technologies, apprenticeships and unusual fields of work for engineers. The Deutsche Technikstrasse project presented engineering services to the public throughout Germany. Industrial photographs and publications showed innovative companies, research institutions, universities, technical museums and industrial monuments along the themed route.

Deutsche Technikstrasse reached around 14 million readers through numerous publications such as an ADAC travel magazine, a Merian extra and publications in GEO and National Geographic. Every year in April, “Doing things” presented itself at the Hanover Fair . The partners of the initiative also took part in the VDI Elevate funding program , which prepares students of engineering and natural sciences for their career entry through training and practical phases.
