The Sachsenbad Dresden is a former swimming pool on Wurzener Straße 18 in the Pieschen district of Dresden .

The building was built by Paul Wolf in 1928/1929 . In 1922 he had succeeded Hans Erlwein and Hans Poelzig as town planning officer. The Sachsenbad is considered a "remarkable example of new building ". The "unadorned plastered facades ... with the uniform rows of windows and flat roofs" have been designed in the style of New Building. Reliefs by Gustav Bach , like a mermaid with a fish, decorate the cuboid body with its uniform rows of windows. A steel gable roof construction supports the staggered extensions. Slightly protruding side wings can be seen to the left and right of the main entrance. At the rear there is a crossbar supported on columns with a terrace. This should form the transition to an outdoor pool that was never built.

On the first floor there was a Roman bath and a steam bath. There are also massage and relaxation rooms and a 25-meter-long and 11-meter-wide swimming pool. Spectators could watch competitions from a gallery. The tubs, showers and spa baths were on the second floor, and a large gymnastics room on the top floor. The indoor pool had underfloor-heated rooms and a restaurant.

The two-storey swimming pool was built as the centerpiece of a larger building complex. This former "sports park" or sports forum was to consist of an indoor pool, an open-air pool, residential and library buildings. Only part of the construction project was implemented. Nonetheless, the ensemble between Wurzener and Rehefelder Strasse is one of the few spaces of modern architecture in Dresden today.

In addition to fitness, weight training, gymnastics and ball sports, the Sachsenbad also offered cultural events such as various courses, readings and exhibitions.

The bath was closed in 1994, the listed building has since been left to decay. The city of Dresden is currently looking for a buyer for the bathroom. This should convert it into a health and therapy bath if possible.
