The Salesianum Rosental is a house of the Catholic order ( congregation ) of the Oblates of St. Franz von Sales in Eichstätt .

history

The name Rosental is originally derived from Leprosental . In the Middle Ages and the early modern period there was a sick tower, a sick fountain and a leper house. From 1809 the buildings served as the Royal Bavarian penal, work and then madhouse. The Sales Oblates have been in operation in Eichstätt since 1923, initially at Willibaldsburg . In 1934 they bought the place and founded the Salesianum Rosental. On January 29, 1960, the new chapel of the Salesianum was inaugurated by Eichstätt Bishop Joseph Schröffer . The Salesianum Rosental is today the central house of the "German-speaking Province of the Oblates of St. Francis of Sales (Sales Oblates)" in Bavaria and serves educational purposes. It also offers space for the Franz Sales Verlag and a Salesian Institute .

From 1999 to 2003, the university master builder Karl Frey renovated the Salesianum and built a new building.
