The Salim Group is the largest conglomerate in Indonesia . The group was founded by Sudono Salim (also Liem Sioe Liong, Chinese Lin Shao Liang (林绍良), born July 16, 1916), a Chinese emigrant from Fujian Province . He later became a confidante of President Suharto .
The group holds shares in Indofood Sukses Mamur , the world's largest instant noodle manufacturer , and in Bogasari , a large milling company. The Salim Group is also active in the fields of agriculture, construction, finance, media, communication and the automotive industry. The Salim Group owns several large oil palm plantations (approximately 1000 km²) and felling concessions. In 1999 the group broke off talks about selling its shares in Indofood because of regulatory rights. They were to be sold to the San Miguel Corporation , the largest food and beverage conglomerate in the Philippines . In the food sector, the Salim Group also controls Manila's water supply .
Presence in West Bengal
The group also has projects in West Bengal , e. B. the construction of Kolkata West International City . The Salim Group and Universal Success are the investors in this project, Ciputra takes on the development and Surbana from Singapore is the project management. The Salim Group is also involved in a chemical center in Nayachar through New Kolkata International Development as a joint venture project of West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. as well as involved in other smaller companies. On March 14, 2007, protests by around 2,000 residents of the Nandigram region , where this chemical center was originally to be built in a special economic zone of 57 km², led to heavy clashes with around 3,000 police officers, in which 14 villagers were killed and 70 injured.
