Sam Stone (song)
Sam Stone is a well-known American anti-war song. It deals with the fate of an American Vietnam War veteran who was awarded the Order of Purple Heart . He cannot deal with his war experiences, becomes addicted to heroin and dies of an overdose. The line: "There's a hole in daddy's arm, where all the money goes" is particularly well known .
The song was recorded by John Prine in 1971 at American Recording Studios, Memphis, Tennessee. Prine is also the author of the song.
