Samick Musical Instruments Co. , Ltd. is a musical instrument manufacturer founded in Korea in 1958 , which is mainly known in Europe as a manufacturer of pianos and grand pianos . It is headquartered in the South Korean port city of Incheon .

history

Initially founded as a pure importer of pianos, Samick began building the first Korean pianos in 1960. From 1965 the production of other musical instruments such as guitars was added.

Although Samick developed into one of the world's largest piano manufacturers in the following decades , the company got more and more into debt in the 1990s and was therefore included in a debt program in 2002. Finally, Samick was bought by the Korean construction machinery company Speco Ltd. bought up. Speco replaced the entire management and converted the company.

In 2004 Samick joined the traditional German piano manufacturer Bechstein . There followed a share swap with mutual participation. The shares were reduced from 49% to 19% through two capital increases and were completely sold in 2009. With manufacturing sites in Korea, China, Indonesia and the USA, Samick claims to be the largest manufacturer of pianos and one of the largest musical instrument manufacturers worldwide. In November 2008, the insolvent German piano manufacturer Seiler was taken over.

Others

For the company's 30th anniversary in 1988, Samick launched a limited-edition electric guitar with an airbrush on the body. The motif was a skull pierced with two swords and a snake.
