Samira Jassam

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Samira Jassam (* around 1958) is an Iraqi woman who is accused of having recruited at least 80 female suicide bombers . She was arrested by Iraqi police on January 21, 2009. Among other things, she is accused of membership in the rebel organization Ansar al-Sunna .

The women were first lured into an ambush, where they were raped. Then Jassam convinced the victims to die as martyrs for Allah in order to avoid shame and punishment. In Islam and thus also in Iraq, rape victims are considered a disgrace for the family and are cast out and avoided in society. The suicide bombings should give the women the opportunity to rehabilitate themselves morally. Jassam prepared women for martyrdom. The women were then passed on to terrorists, who equipped them with explosives and brought them to the target as living bombs. Often women are not physically searched at checkpoints. This makes it easier for them to hide explosives under their traditional clothing.

“We have arrested Samira Jassim, also known as 'Um al-Mumenin' (Mother of the Faithful), for being responsible for recruiting at least 80 women. She has confessed to her actions and taken responsibility for 28 terrorist attacks, ”said Major General Qassim Atta.

Of the attacks for which she is responsible, two took place in the Diyala province in central Iraq, which is considered to be one of the most dangerous areas of all. In 2008 the US military authorities reported 6 assassination attempts by female perpetrators in this area. There were 23 suicide bombings carried out by women across the country over the same period.
