Hodgepodge
As a smorgasbord an unordered, unsystematic designed collection is now called.
The word originally comes from a culinary context ; the Low German Sammelsur , which was formed according to the same pattern as swartsur , means something like “sour dish made from collected leftovers”. In the 18th century this name was used with a derogatory undertone; under a collective curse one understood a disgusting mixture of vegetables. The ending -ium is similar to the output of words such fuss , trifle or spill , a well-spread mainly by North German students apparently learned latinisierendes suffix .
As a book title, the hodgepodge has become known in particular through Schott's hodgepodge .
