Schott's hodgepodge

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Schott's hodgepodge or Schott's Almanach ( British original and US edition: Schott's Miscellany or Schott's Almanac ) is a series of books by the author Ben Schott . The first edition appeared as Schott's Original Miscellany in 2002. The German first edition was number 1 on the Spiegel bestseller list for 12 weeks in 2004 and 2005 .

Schott's hodgepodge gained its entertainment and informational value not from its apparent completeness like a conventional lexicon or an almanac , but from Ben Schott's weighting and selection of useless facts, lists and curiosities.

Yearbooks appeared as Schott's Almanac from 2005 to 2010 in Great Britain and from 2006 to 2008 in the USA and Germany. The volumes were published in all three countries by Bloomsbury Publishing , with each issue having a different structure and content. Every year in November the current Schotts Almanac was published for the following year. He gathered the most curious facts of the year in 13 sections from Media & People to Music & Film and Sports .

Two topic-specific volumes have also been published: Schott's hodgepodge of food and drink and Schott's hodgepodge of sport, play & idleness .
