Ben Schott

Ben Schott (born May 26, 1974 in London ) is a British author , photographer , designer and librarian .

Life

Schott was born in London on May 26, 1974, the son of a neurologist and a nurse. He graduated from University College School, Hampstead and Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge.

His first book Schott's hodgepodge sold over two million copies worldwide. Schott himself set the typesetting and privately printed 50 copies, which he distributed to friends, before Bloomsbury Publishing recognized Schott's abilities and made the hodgepodge a worldwide bestseller. Schott has collected the most curious facts on all areas of social life. In addition to the recipe for Bloody Mary and the names of Santa Claus' reindeer, it also contains the little-known supplementary articles of the American constitution and all German Christmas number 1 hits since 1969. The follow-up volumes were Schott's hodgepodge of food and drink , Schott's hodgepodge of sport, games and Idling ( Schott's Sporting, Gaming, & Idling Miscellany ) and Schott's Almanac 2007 (English Schott's Almanac 2007 ). Every year in November, Schott's hodgepodge [year of publication + 1] ( Schott's Almanac ) appears. Currently "Schott's hodgepodge 2011". In addition, Ben Schott, together with Börsenblatt and his German publisher, BloomsburyBerlin-Verlag , has been awarding a prize for the most curious German-language book of the year based on the British Diagram Prize since 2008 .
