Sandor Petofi Monument
The Sandor Petöfi Monument is a sculpture in the Park on the Ilm in Weimar . On a concrete plinth designed by P. Molnar with the writing of the Hungarian poet and revolutionary Sándor Petőfi stands his life-size bronze bust created by Tamás Vigh .
Petöfi was considered a great admirer of Goethe , but had no further connection to Weimar. The monument was a gift from the Petöfi Irodalmi Museum Budapest to the city and was intended to commemorate Hungarian poetry. The inauguration of the monument took place on March 26, 1976. On one surface of the base it says: "Sandor Petöfi Hungarian poet and revolutionary 1823 1849" .
