Sandwich-Man is a form of billboard advertising .

function

As a sandwich man, a person with a reinforced poster on their chest and back (also known as a sandwich board) moves through highly frequented areas such as a pedestrian zone or an event. The area of outdoor advertising also includes the so-called running flags , which are similar in function , in German, for example, running advertising flags in which beach flags are carried on the backs of promoters. Due to their height, they are more noticeable in crowds and the advertising space is no longer limited to the flags, but can also be attached to the clothing of the flag bearers.

history

This form of outdoor advertising has a long tradition in advertising history. Sandwichmen were already being used as mobile, human advertising media in London in 1820 , when taxes were to be paid for poster advertising and the competition for advertising space increased. In August 2008 mobile billboard advertising was banned in central London streets because the sandwich men - around 100 according to estimates by the city council - were rated as a traffic obstacle and an impairment of the cityscape.
