Sanjay Ghemawat
Sanjay Ghemawat (* 1966 ) is an American computer scientist who is a software engineer at Google .
Ghemawat received his PhD in computer science from Barbara Liskov (and Frans Kaashoek ) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1995 ( The Modified Object Buffer: A Storage Management Technique for Object-Oriented Databases ). He then went to the DEC Systems Research Center in Palo Alto and has been with Google since the end of 1999.
At Google he dealt with various projects on the system infrastructure of Google, such as index systems, RPC systems, compression methods, methods of performance improvement, memory management, languages for data representation, distributed systems. With Jeff Dean he was involved in the development of MapReduce at Google and he was involved in TensorFlow , the distributed database Spanner and Bigtable , among others . At DEC / Compaq he was involved with Dean on the Swift Java Compiler.
In 2012 he received the ACM Infosys Award with Jeff Dean and in 2012 both received the Mark Weiser Award . In 2016 Ghemawat was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
Sanjay Ghemawat is the younger brother of the economist and university professor Pankaj Ghemawat .
