Sanlu

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sanlu (Chinese: 三鹿 集团; literally "three deer") was a Chinese producer of dairy products. The state-owned company was one of the oldest and best-known brands of baby food in China.

After the Chinese milk scandal in 2008 , Sanlu had to file for bankruptcy. The milk company Sanlu had been supplied with significant quantities of melamine- contaminated milk. By adding the substance melamine, the milk should appear richer in protein during controls. In young children, melamine leads to kidney stones and kidney failure. A total of over 300,000 children were affected, six of whom died. Four company officials were sentenced to long prison terms. Two of Sanlu's suppliers were sentenced to death and executed.
